With
the demise of the old pavilion in Banner Lane, Club Captain Dave
Phillips has negotiated the use of the fabulous Xcel Leisure Centre
in Mitchell Avenue. The
centre opened in June 2008 as the replacement for the Midland Sports
Centre on Cromwell Lane.
Training
night is Wednesdays and we meet at 6.30 pm. The Xcel Centre is ideally
located for evening runs in the winter as the local roads, business
parks and University of Warwick are well lit and virtually traffic-free.
Captain
Phillips usually plans the evenings run, which may involve various
activities including warm-up, hill reps, sprints and a steady run.
Changing and shower facilities at the centre are superb and there
is ample car parking.
Post-training
refreshments are an important part of the Massey tradition and these
take place at the Massey Ferguson Club in Broad Lane. Here you can
enjoy a beer, cider or soft drink and good food to replace those
lost calories. You'll also get a chance to talk to some of the older
retired MFRC members who'll tell you what running was like in the
old days - if they can remember!
